The Ottawa Tulip Festival

Terrapin Tours went to the Ottawa Tulip Festival on not one, but two incredible weekends this May! A great time was had by all – including Terri the Terrapin 🙂

The first group enjoyed unseasonably warm weather, with sunny days and warm nights. That helped get the tulips blooming, and we saw them at Commissioners Park near Dow’s Lake.We also enjoyed visits to the Canadian Museum of Civilization, the Byward Market, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police stables at the Musical Ride Center, and a tour of the city with a local guide.  There was no shortage of laughter, good times and fun moments (some caught on camera)!  Thanks to Northway Bank’s TruNorth Travel Club members for making this such an enjoyable trip!

The second group was lucky to see tulips in full bloom all over the city.  It it amazing to see tulips in bloom for as far as your eyes can see – they are gorgeous!  Not that tulips were the only thing on the list – we still took in all the sights of the city including the Tulip Festival International Pavilion where various nations were represented in food, dance and crafts. A few people enjoyed the music and entertainment at night while sipping a glass of wine in the Tulip Lounge.  The views from the Canadian Museum of Civilization were worth the visit (so is the museum), it was no wonder that we saw countless weddings taking place all over the city that day.  We also had a chance to walk the grounds at Rideau Hall to see the trees planted by all of the guests who have stayed there – it was a lovely stroll and we saw trees planted by our Presidents and British Royalty. Our favorite was the one that Will & Kate planted when they visited the city last year.
